M.A.D.a.M. may I? A Weekly exclusive

Ducky Slaughter and Matthew W. of M.A.D.a.M. management have only barely let the dust settle on their weekly lineup of Vinyl Wednesdays at Tao, Rebel Chill Thursdays at Rainbow Bar & Grill (rumored to be closing in two weeks ... again) and Flux Fridays at Polly Esther’s, but already the duo is back at it, presenting us with two new local industry nights. Superficial Sundays, a beauty-industry party, will begin October 7 at Blush. Spotlighting a different aspect of the beauty and fashion world each week, Superficial will, in a very tongue-in-cheek manner, bring the world’s top beauticians, hairstylists, makeup artists and emerging fashion brands to Wynn’s boutique nightclub, beginning with Cristophe Salon Beverly Hills. Party-goers will walk a red carpet before entering and pose for pictures to be displayed inside the club, and some will even be interviewed before they strut the velvet-roped catwalk down the center of the dance floor, showing off their signature style. Really, they have no choice, as the catwalk is the entrance to the club! This doesn’t mean that only stick-thin model-types will be in attendance. Hipsters, trend-buckers and our favorites, the dirty-pretty ones, will all get attention at this event. Superficial will have uniquely stylish locals being hand-picked to model the fashions or makeup the rest of the night, while DJ Supra spins Top 40, rock, indie and select hip-hop remixes.

“Were trying to mix the fashionably elite with the people who make them fashionably elite,” Matthew W. says. And who better than this pair to do that mixing? Matthew and Slaughter had each amassed three years of hairstyling and salon training when they first met. “It’s the one instance when anybody who’s ever wanted to be a star will get the experience a star gets when they go out to a club,” adds Slaughter.

Their second event will take M.A.D.a.M. on Fridays to the Icehouse Lounge for Ink, a tattoo-industry mixer, which will kick off in early October with help from X-treme Radio X107.5-FM. A “true rock night,” Matthew explains, Ink will feature a different tattoo parlor each week, as well as tie in a major motor-sports company, a motorcycle element and a live band. While Ink goes off on Icehouse’s first floor, NYC’s famous junglist/drum & bass party will be thumping upstairs, and it is expected that the two will bleed into each other seamlessly.

Bunnies after dark

The Playboy Club in the Fantasy Tower at the Palms has very quietly been making alterations and upgrades to its chic, Bunny-branded gaming pit in the sky in preparation for the new After Dark Sundays, set to officially launch on October 7 during the Vegas Music Experience. A boosted sound system, lighting enhancements and the addition of a new lounge area will, says N9NE Group corporate director of marketing Michael Fuller, establish a more appealing balance between the venue’s gaming self and its lounge self. At the lounge’s far end, the gaming tables have been moved forward and a wood floor laid down to establish this seating area. With entirely modular furnishings, the seating can be removed to create an even larger dance area as the parties require. “We wanted to have a more 50-50 balance, and I think we captured that,” says Fuller. After Dark will soft-launch on Sunday, September 30, with a visit from the S.K.A.M. Artists army of DJs, as well as from birthday boy DJ OB-One. October 14, After Dark will celebrate the appearance of the Las Vegas Playboy Club’s Bunny pictorial in a coming issue of Playboy magazine, and, as if that could be topped, October 21 will center on a live lingerie photo shoot.

What happens on a sound stage ...

If you peruse the popular and useful Internet Movie Database (www.IMDB.com) as much as we do (we love the trivia!) then you know that Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz are hard at work on their new flick What Happens in Vegas. The cutesy comedy about a couple who discover that after a night of typical Vegas debauchery they have—oops!—gotten hitched, will bring the spotlight to a number of Vegas venues and nightclubs. Insiders tell us the production staff has already set up camp at the host hotel, Planet Hollywood, and that shooting there and all around in Vegas begins on October 15. On the short list of clubs confirmed for cameos are Tryst and Pure, where a rep added that the film crew will have access to the entire venue for a whole day and night. One spy working on the film noted that set designers have also been scoping out the Palms Pool & Bungalows, and are rumored to be pricing out the rental of additional palm trees. What, Vegas isn’t Vegasy enough for Hollywood?
