Like their forbears Tortoise, this animal collective of instrumental rockers hails from Chicago and believes in musical evolution above all else. Over the course of three albums, the four-piece has pruned its metal roots, with last year’s Echoes blooming as the most melodic, textured and propelling of the bunch. The last piece of pop culture remotely this epic and cinematic involved British runners, a beach and gratuitous slow-motion.
