90-second wedding-reception critic

Billy Bragg and Ani DiFranco don’t qualify as typical wedding-party fare, but then, Judi Brown and Jeff Madlambayan aren’t typical newlyweds.

The local musicians—both members of world-beat trio Pan de Sal (Brown also plays bass in Love Pentagon; Madlambayan doubles as electronic wizard The Doodler)—tied the knot on Saturday, then celebrated with a series of informal performances Sunday at the Bunkhouse. Musical well-wishers included A Crowd of Small Adventures’ Jackson Wilcox, who tried on Bragg’s “A New England,” and Hungry Cloud (Mike Weller), who played tunes from his in-progress full-length.

Making the proceedings even more memorable: the return of Orange Sheila (Sheila Hall), who left her folk roots behind several years ago to help launch Pan de Sal, and by the debut of new act Kid Meets Cougar. Sheila teamed with a giddy Brown for a cover of DiFranco’s “Both Hands,” while KMC—comprising Brett Bolton (Jr. Anti-Sex League) and Courtney Carroll (Love Pentagon/The Clydesdale)—premiered its percussive, electro-spiced wares.

Here’s hoping the one-year anniversary party will be as memorable.
