Beyond the Rope: Bo Burroughs—The Gatekeeper

Hometown: Nashville, TN

Age: 33

Profession: Doorman and VIP host, Tao Beach

Profile: Dressed in his signature bohemian linens, this laid-back, confident “professional nice guy” personally oversees the booking of Tao Beach’s seven cabanas and 25 daybeds. Blackberry a-blazing, the Southern gentleman (genteel drawl intact, ladies) stays in constant contact with his loyal clientele and mans the door, sorting the wheat from the chaff—and never without his contagious smile and laughter.

Why I do what I do: “I do what I do to protect the party, to protect the vibe. I’m not just some jerk with a clipboard. Just because we can’t help you today doesn’t mean we can’t help you tomorrow. We want you to join us!”

Personal tidbit: In addition to his 18 years in the nightclub realm—Miami, NY, LA and now Vegas—Bo studied film at the New York Film Academy, screenwriting at UCLA and acting at both the Atlantic Theater Company and the Beverly Hills Playhouse. In his heart of hearts, Bo knows he’s destined to become a filmmaker.

What I’m listening to: MGMT, LCD Soundsystem

Latest accomplishment: Just wrapped filming Spring Break ’83 in New Orleans with friend and director Mars Callahan (Pool Hall Junkies), where Bo wrangled the stars on-set and learned movie-making first-hand. The film debuts spring 2009.

Quote: “At least it’s interesting …”
