Catching up with The Vermin

Julie Seabaugh

Otto’s Shrunken Head, New York City, March 9 Rob Ruckus, bass: “There were members of Johnny Thunders’ Heartbreakers, a bunch of Japanese girls, members from old local bands that play out there now in Pretendo. We had a really good turnout.”

Biacci’s, Upland, CA, March 28 Ruckus: “It was an all-ages gig, really good turnout for that, too. Joey from Mad Parade got up and sang ‘Boredom Is the Reason’ by M.I.A. with us.”

Que Sera, Long Beach, CA, March 29 Ruckus: “It was some dominatrix show; I was naked.” Dirk Vermin, vocals/guitar: “I don’t remember anything. I was way too drunk.”

The Icehouse, April 25 Ruckus: “For their Inked Fridays they’re profiling Dirk’s tattoo shop, so we’re gong to play with Riley Baxter’s band, Sonic Sedation.”

That long-gestating Boredom Was the Reason book Vermin: “Writing should be done in about four or five months; we’re also working on the soundtrack.”

The new Vermin album Vermin: “It’s the best writing I’ve ever done. I can’t believe I’m writing this good this late in my career. I can’t wait for people to hear it.”
