Nature provides winemakers with infinite permutations of weather and terroir, as well as other natural and man-made obstacles to keep things “interesting.” So sticking to the same grape blend from year to year might not always create a consistent product, let alone a killer vintage. The first release of Reggae Rhapsody in 2004 was a success, selling out 200 cases in short order. But the second vintage (from 2006) is slated to sell out its 600 cases even faster. Easy-drinking (hence the pairing with reggae music) and not too sweet, the ’06 blend uses California fruit. Sonny Barton, co-founder/partner of Amplified Wines, comments, “This new blend is unique. You’ve got all these flavors in your mouth; it’s almost orgasmic.” Taste for yourself at Rock ’n Roll Wine’s Reggae Pool Party at Green Valley Ranch on Friday May 2, 7 p.m., $35 in advance, $40 at the door.
