Appreciate local talent. Both current and former students from UNLV’s film program will showcase their works (including the Thompson brothers’ Passenger Seat, pictured) in the department’s annual Spring Flicks event, the UNLV equivalent of Sundance or Cannes (without the celebrities or red carpets). Screenings are free, and an awards ceremony follows the final film. May 2 and 3, 7-10 p.m.; May 4, 1-5 p.m. UNLV Classroom Building Complex Room A-106.

2.

Show your Pride. No, you’re not watching the cast of the Riv’s An Evening at La Cage walk out in protest. That procession of colorful characters is participating in the 10th annual SNAPi (Southern Nevada Association of Pride, Inc.) Pride Night Parade. Marching from 8-10 p.m. on Friday, May 2, down 4th Street from Charleston to Ogden, the parade will be presided over by celebrity judges who will select units and individuals for best group, best costumes and more. SNAPi’s mission is “to educate the community by invoking, promoting and celebrating lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender pride.” This is their most fabulous, glittering, over-the-top spectacle, and like everything, it starts with just one step in the right direction. lasvegaspride.org.

Go to War and live to tell about it. “War, huh, yeah what is it good for? Absolutely nothing. Uh-huh! War, huh, yeah. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing. Say it again, y’all. War, huh, good God …” Okay, so Edwin Starr penned those lyrics, but we don’t fault War. In fact, the group’s multi-ethnic makeup and fusion of rock, jazz, Latin and R&B hinted at the promise of one nation united under a groove. So hop in your low rider and enjoy. May 3, 8 p.m., Cannery. Tickets are $21 and up, plus tax. 617-5585.

4,

Ditch in. Armed with a brand-spanking-new resident DJ—Skribble!—Ditch Fridays returns to the Palms Pool & Bungalows on Friday, May 2, with a packed itinerary of themed parties, live musical performances, giveaways, fashion shows and, of course, celebrity hosts. Expect to see the likes of Kendra Wilkinson and Holly Madison from Girls Next Door frolicking poolside along with plenty of other Playboy-branded tie-ins. This summer the Palms will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for holding the world’s largest underwear party, and stage an extravagant treasure hunt with a pirate ship. Just what Vegas needs—more booty! Noon-6 p.m., $20, local ladies free.

Get in touch with your jingoistic side. This one falls under the category of “must be seen to be believed.” Sean Hannity, the self-promoting conservative who brought you Hannidate (yes, it’s a dating service for the right-wing) and yet another reason to hate Fox News, brings his “love America or leave” vibe to Las Vegas, the latest stop on his “Freedom Concert” tour, featuring—who else?—Lee Greenwood. Normally we’d tell you to avoid such things like the plague, but this one is so over the top, we can’t resist. Orleans Arena, Saturday, May 3, 8 p.m. $25-$35. orleansarena.com/sean-hannity.

6.

Breed with Kim Deal. The Pixies wiggled out of a summer 2004 scheduled show at Cox Pavilion, but at least Las Vegans can count on Kim Deal’s “other” band to show when it says it will. The Breeders, who played the Huntridge five years ago, return to town for a House of Blues show with new album Mountain Battles in hand. Who needs Frank Black, anyway? With Colour Revolt. May 2, 7:30 p.m., $20-22. House of Blues, 632-7600.
