Luxor is blowin’ up T&T

The Luxor is no longer keeping the latest project in its ongoing renaissance under its hat, although it will be keeping the project under a hat—a massive, brushed-aluminum sombrero, to be exact. The structure, created by world-renowned hospitality designer Adam Tihany, will house T&T (Tacos & Tequila), a highly stylized restaurant, combining modern Mexican elements with rock ’n’ roll flair.

“This is not your grandma’s cantina. Think Pink Taco meets Coyote Ugly, interpreted by Quentin Tarantino,” says creator and owner Michael Frey. “I am excited to bring our version of a sexy, energy-infused Mexican restaurant to life. Offering more than just a great place to grab an amazing taco or great tequila, it will be a dining experience that will overload the senses.” The menu will enlist the restaurant savvy of Master Chef Richard Sandoval, including both modern and traditional Mexican cuisine as well as an extensive tequila selection.

In addition to the restaurant, T&T will also feature a freestanding daiquiri bar and a seductive after-hour lounge called El Salon (sounding similar to The Sala at Dos Caminos and The Living Room at Privé), for nightlife-goers who prefer to sit down and relax in a comfortable, casual setting. The design is influenced by five icons of Mexican culture: the sombrero, the shot glass, the bullfight, skeletons (gracias, Dia de Los Muertos!) and seductive women. Painted with a palette of yellows, reds, greens, oranges and blues, the bar is arranged to conjure images of a bullfight, with a painted mural of a bullfight surrounded by stadium-style shelves, stocked with liquor bottles arranged to look like spectators. Adorning the 80,000-square foot structure will be two 20-foot laser cutouts of dancing skeletons. The brim of the hat will also project skeleton images onto the concrete floor below. By offering Vegas’ requisite daiquiris-by-the-yard in an upscale setting, T&T joins the ranks of places like Diablo’s Cantina, Hawaiian Tropic Zone and Trader Vic’s. But T&T takes this concept and the trendy skull theme and puts them under one roof. Or rather, hat. Construction on T&T will begin this month, for a summer opening.

Here comes the fun (do do do do)

That’s one spicy Mary! But if it tickles your tongue just a little too much, you’ll only have yourself to blame because you made it! Announcing the Build Your Own Bloody Mary bar at Revolution Lounge. Open to the Mirage’s casino floor, the Abby Road bar will offer this special service every day from noon-6 p.m. In addition to Revolution’s four signature Marys (regular, Cajun, citron and wasabi; $16 each), you can begin with any of 10 vodkas ranging from $16-20. To this you will add either Clamato, tomato or V8 juice and then spice that Mary up! Seasonings include cayenne pepper, celery salt, lemon pepper and Old Bay, but to really put hair on your chest you’ll abandon the traditional Worcestershire sauce in favor of jalapeno Tabasco, habañero Tabasco, horseradish or wasabi. Tears spring to the eyes just thinking about it. Finally, take your pick from a garden of garnishes, from the tame (celery, olive, lemon wedge) to the outlandish (pickled asparagus, carrots and green beans; tomolives). And what the bloody hell is a “tomolive”?!

Clubs cashing in on Mondays

Let’s get ready to rumble! The fight for the right to party on Mondays is becoming rather expensive for two clubs but hey, it’s the locals who stand to benefit. Only just launched on January 21, Privé’s Money For Nothing Mondays showers partiers with $5,000 cash every week. (Hint: Listen for the Dire Straits song for which the event is named.) But prior to Privé’s arrival, it was Jet that sort of had dibs on Mondays, holding the biggest party that night; others can be found at Tabu, Foundation and CatHouse.

Jet, if you’ve noticed, doesn’t appear to be taking this development lying down. Light Group has turned up the heat, staging a series of big-ticket contests with prizes including $5,000-$10,000 checks, overnight stays at the Mirage and even trips to Cabo San Lucas for the whole staff. There will always be a struggle to come out on top in the club game, but as long as it’s the customer who comes first, both clubs can consider themselves winners.

Can you stomp to this?

When it comes to exercise, if you prefer the serene quiet of yoga, you’ll have to sit out Las Vegas Athletic Club’s latest workout experience, which is sculpted for people who like their exercise like they like their music—loud. The athletic club is teaming up with members of the cast of Stomp Out Loud, Planet Hollywood’s bodily percussive show, to bring gym buffs a new aerobics class: Hip, Hoppin’ and Stompin’.  The class, geared towards both beginners and the more advanced, will combine hip-hop, dance and body percussion (complete with drum accompaniment provided by Stomp cast members) to create an exhilarating workout. The class, held exclusively at the northwest club location on Rainbow Road, will appear on the LVAC roster once a month. If you missed the inaugural class on February 6, you can stomp your feet in anger or in practice for future classes, which will take place on the first Wednesday of every month.
