Coming to Town

As I Lay Dying
An Ocean Between Us ***
The fourth album from the San Diego metalcore quintet features yet another lineup change but a reliable consistency in sound, with new bassist Josh Gilbert adding a few melodic vocals to the tight thrash riffs and hardcore screaming that are the band’s trademark. It’s only a slight variation on what they’ve done before, then, but songs like the soaring, anthemic “I Never Wanted” hint at more expansive developments to come. –Josh Bell

Evergreen Terrace
Wolfbiker ** 1/2
They’re pretty prolific for a bunch of road-warrior goofballs (seven releases since 2001), and July’s vein-bulging onslaught offers few surprises on the punk-metalcore front. Yet somewhere along the line, the quintet’s DIY ethos has broadened to include a message: individuality, determination and authenticity rule all. –JS
