Standing tall

Julie Seabaugh

He may look about 14, but rest assured British stand-up Matt Kirshen brings a decidedly adult sensibility to his winkingly naive stories and big-picture bafflements. His dogged, cutting chunks of material—no hacky one-liners here—have derived from his world travels (he’s gigged in Singapore, Dubai, Holland, Germany and France) and healthy sense of self most comics only dream about. And just when you think he’s a little too smart, he rips the most vicious pedophile joke this side of Doug Stanhope. Kirshen’s already made a splash stateside on the fifth season of Last Comic Standing, so with a one-man show and CD taping on the horizon, act now and be able to say you saw him before he exploded in popularity—and possibly even before he reached his full height.

March 24-30, 8:30 and 10:30 p.m., $25. The Riviera Comedy Club, 794-9433.
