Our Picks of the Week

1.

Celebrate the world’s largest bachelorette party. Kendra, Bridget and Holly of The Girls Next Door don’t have much in common (well, except for the fact that they’re all platinum blond, date Hef and have enormous racks), but they do have one lucky mutual girlfriend, and they’re throwing her the world’s largest bachelorette party at Rain nightclub at the Palms on Friday, March 28. If you want to be on TV, now’s your chance—the whole thing’s being filmed for the E! show. More than 1,000 women are expected to be there, and they all get veils at the door. (Don’t ask us why, but there’s something about those veils that makes a girl wanna get freaky!)

2.

Shake your ass … at the base of a giant, glowing cross. Thought Justice’s post-VMAs Beauty Bar DJ set was happening last September? You ain’t heard nothin’ yet. The über-hyped Parisian electronic duo is back in town Sunday night, this time for a full-on live performance (to learn about the difference, see our interview with Gaspard Augé on Page 75). Standing around will not be tolerated. With Diplo, Fancy. March 30, 7 p.m., $25-$30. House of Blues, 632-7600.

3.

Celebrate a true musical talent. She’s already cemented her reputation as one of music’s most talented R&B/soul vocalists, and she’s barely in her twenties. Talented mainstream musicians are scarce these days. Joss Stone is one of them. Don’t miss her when she returns to Las Vegas at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Joint at the Hard Rock. Tickets are $32-$72 and available from ticketmaster.com.

4.

Question your level of intelligence. You may be smarter than a fifth-grader, but odds are you can’t even touch the 1,200 young people from high schools across the country who will be convening in Las Vegas on March 28 to compete in the fourth annual For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology robotics competition. Also known as the “Super Bowl of Smarts,” this year’s competition includes 43 teams (14 of them from Clark County) and runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. Admittance is free.

5.

Hang out with a bunch of French-Canadians. If you’ve ever watched a Cirque du Soleil show and wondered, “What the hell?” now’s your chance to get some face time with cast and crew of those mystifying productions, all while helping charity. The Seventh Annual Run Away with Cirque du Soleil 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk begins at 7:45 a.m. at the Springs Preserve on Saturday, March 29. And don’t forget the free booty—all entrants get an insulated cooler tote and a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a host of prizes, including a trip for four to Orlando to see La Nouba and passes to Walt Disney World. There’s a $25 pre-registration fee for the run, and a $20 fee for the walk. Otherwise, it’s $40 the day of the event. All proceeds go to The Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation, WestCare and Center for Independent Living. Register online at cirquedusoleil.com/5krun.
