10,000 Maniacs formed as a band in 1981 with Robert Buck, Dennis Drew, Steven Gustafson, John Lombardo and Natalie Merchant. The band has seen some member changes in the past three decades adding Jerry Augustyniak in 1983 and Mary Ramsey taking over lead vocals from Merchant in 1993. Their distinct sound paved the way for what became known as alternative rock. Hits include "Don't Talk", "Hey Jack Kerouac", "Like the Weather" and "What's the Matter Here".
