Springing a leak

An early look at albums that escape early to the web

Morrissey, Years of Refusal (February 16) Like all Moz solo discs, his latest is a mixed bag, roughly equal parts memorable (“Mama Lay Softly on the Riverbed,” “I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris,” “It’s Not Your Birthday Anymore”) and disposable (the loudest tunes seem the tamest: “Something Is Squeezing My Skull,” “All You Need Is Me,” “Sorry Doesn’t Help”). Diehards aside, better to pluck individual cuts than plunk down for the full monty next month. –SP
