Medical Marijuana in the Silver State

NuggMD is bringing speed and convenience to medical marijuana in the Silver State, but it hasn't always been so easy to become a patient. While medical marijuana has technically been legal in Nevada since November of 2000 when Ballot Question 9 passed, the Nevada Medical Marijuana Cardholders/Caregivers Program failed to catch on until 2015 when Silver State Relief opened in Sparks.

Since then, medical marijuana in Nevada has thrived as the entire application process, from doctor evaluation to application submission, can be completed online! Patients with a valid medical condition may register with the state to use cannabis, plus receive extra protections and benefits that aren’t available to recreational users.

Recreational Marijuana’s Influence on the Nevada MMJ Program

Following the positive public opinion surrounding medical marijuana, Ballot Question 2 legalized recreational marijuana in Nevada for adults 21 and older. It also improved public attitudes toward the Nevada MMJ program by strengthening patient rights.

Benefits of Having a Nevada Medical Marijuana Card

There’s good reason why medical cannabis in Nevada is booming: the benefits of a having a Nevada MMJ I.D. Card are too important to ignore.

One of the more notable perks is exemption from a strange law that prohibits cultivating marijuana if you live within 25 miles of a cannabis establishment like a storefront dispensary (if your situation qualifies).

Other benefits include but aren’t limited to:

  • Exemption from 10% retail excise tax on all cannabis transactions.
  • Right to purchase 2.5 ounces of marijuana flower and concentrate versus just an ounce for recreational users.
  • Ability to use marijuana under the age of 21 for medical treatment. If you’re under 18 you must have a parent/guardian sign a minor release form permitting its use.

Applying for a MMJ I.D. Card

Applying is really pretty simple: get evaluated by a doctor, submit your application through the state website, receive your MMJ card by mail.

It’s even easier since NuggMD, the country’s leading telemedicine provider, is now available in Nevada. They’ll connect you with a registered medical doctor online using your smartphone or laptop from wherever you are, even the tranquility of home, in no time! It’s just $79 for a one year NuggMD Nevada Medical Marijuana Card or $99 for a two year.

Currently, only a handful of medical conditions qualify for MMJ use:

  • Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS)
  • Cancer
  • Glaucoma
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Cachexia (general physical wasting and malnutrition from chronic disease)
  • Persistent muscle spasms (including multiple sclerosis)
  • Seizures (including epilepsy)
  • Severe nausea
  • Severe pain (the most common)

Receive a one-year certified medical evaluation for $79 or a two-year certified medical evaluation for $99. If a registered NuggMD doctor approves you for medical marijuana, he or she will provide the needed paperwork to include with your application packet. Need help filling yours out or just want to make sure you have all the required documents? Don’t hesitate to ask one of their dedicated concierges for help.

State Application Fees

Now that you’re a certified by a NuggMD doc, visit the state website to complete the process. Nevada charges a non-refundable application processing fee of $50 for one year applications and $100 for two year applications. There are also no waivers available.

Common Reasons for Rejection from the Medical Marijuana Cardholders/Caregivers Program

The truth is most applications are rejected for missing information. Yup, most people fail to simply fill out the application properly, resulting in re-applying and re-paying. The best way to avoid this problem? Have a NuggMD cannabis concierge double check!

Other reasons for rejection are possessing a commercial driver’s license and having serious criminal convictions. Simple drug possession convictions aren’t usually a problem so don’t let that discourage you.
