Quick Bites: Joël Robuchon, Carversteak, India meets Italy at Monzu and more Vegas food news

Three Square’s Las Vegas Restaurant Week has been extended through Friday, June 25, with more than 25 participating restaurants continuing to offer their special menus at discounted prices through the end of the week. For the list of restaurants, visit restaurantweeklv.org.

Monzu Italian Oven & Bar will host a special “India meets Italy” collaboration dinner with chefs Giovanni Mauro and Hemant Kishore on Thursday, June 24 at 7 p.m. The event will feature a five-course menu with Italian wine pairings for $155 and tickets are available by calling 702-749-5959.

Resorts World Las Vegas opens this week—as if you didn’t know—and the new Strip destination announced a partnership with Grubhub called On The Fly that will allow guests to conveniently order and charge the cost to their room or credit card via the Grubhub app from the resort’s 40 food and beverage concepts as well as select retail shops for pickup or delivery. It’s the first time Grubhub has partnered with a casino resort to provide this technology and the system will take the place of traditional in-room dining. Resorts World opens on Thursday, June 24.

Speaking of Resorts World, Carver Road Hospitality recently announced its first concept, Carversteak, will be the new resort’s only steak-focused restaurant when its 14,500-square-foot space opens in December. Designed by DesignAgency, the restaurant will include several private dining rooms, a 70-foot quartzite stone bar and a 3,500-square-foot terrace. Carver Road has partnered with Oliver Wharton’s A Perfect Bite group on the project and the beverage program will be helmed by Francesco Lafranconi.

Fresh52 Farmers & Artisan Market is bringing back the Garlic Lovers’ Festival at its Inspirada market on Thursday, June 24, from 3 to 8 p.m. Local vendors will offer baked goods and specialty items highlighting garlic during the free event and live music and food trucks will also be part of the fun. The Tea Lounge at the Waldorf Astoria on the Strip will host a Pride-themed tea party on Thursday, June 24, with seatings at 11:45 a.m. and 2 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the new Henderson Equality Center, a nonprofit advocacy organization fighting for civil rights for the LGBTQ community. La Strega in Summerlin will host a pop-up fish market on Sunday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring a variety of raw seafood, broths and accoutrements with take-home instructions for shoppers to best prepare their selections at home. Guests can also dine in on a limited menu on a first-come-first-serve basis during the event.

Joël Robuchon at MGM Grand will reopen on July 1 and sister restaurant L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon will follow on July 15. Las Vegas’ only three Michelin star restaurant, the original Robuchon will bring back its acclaimed 15-course menu as well as the beloved tableside cheese, bread and dessert carts. And at L’Atelier, executive chef Jonathan Doukhan said his restaurant’s downtime “provided us the opportunity to brainstorm ways to revive the daring spirit of L’Atelier,” and a menu featuring recognizable dishes and new, challenging offerings is in the works. After reopening as a different style of restaurant during the pandemic last year, the Buffet at Wynn is finally set to return to normal operations on July 1. A new entrance features eight live royal palms imported from South Florida and the revamped menu features several new brunch dishes created by executive chef Jason Duarte. The Buffet will be open Thursday through Monday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. for breakfast, lunch and dinner; weekend brunch will be available Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Also at Wynn, legendary pitmaster Burt Bakman of Slab BBQ in Los Angeles will host the Red, White & Barbecue event at the resort’s new Outdoor Event Pavilion on July 4 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $99 and are available by calling 702-770-7070. Bakman is also leading one of Wynn’s Master Class sessions on July 2 at noon demonstrating the craft of barbecue and more information is available at wynnlasvegas.com.

Long rumored for a renovation and rebranding, Rhumbar at the Mirage will close permanently on July 25. MGM Resorts officials confirmed the indoor-outdoor bar and lounge at the resort’s southern Strip entrance will transition into a new ultralounge concept with an opening expected this winter.

Dina Mitchell, the entrepreneur who popularized Tropical Smoothie Café for nearly 15 years in Las Vegas and along the West Coast, is set to debut a new quick-service concept called PowerSoul Café in Southern Nevada in early 2022. The new chain is set to be the world’s first 100% gluten-free fast-food concept, offering both vegan and keto options and no GMOs. Six locations are planned to open throughout the first year.
